FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Why was the Liberty Card created?
The card does two powerful things. (1) It helps identify libertarians with a political quiz. (2) It provides web links to top libertarian organizations including think tanks, blogs, stores, radio shows, and more! When talking about libertarian issues it's best to give people websites where they can learn more information from top, principled libertarian websites.

Why is there a political quiz on the card?
This card helps identify political affiliation, and shows that the political spectrum is just not left (liberal) vs. right (conservative). The quiz also gets the users to think in terms of smaller government vs. bigger government, instead of left vs. right.

How is the political quiz different from the Advocates for Self-Government quiz card?
The Advocates' World's Smallest Political Quiz had recently been updated and some found areas of improvement.
1) Bias - Some thought the questions were biased, so to eliminate any possible problems the Liberty Card asks users to grade an issue from 0-20. 0 = more government. 10 = undecided or mixed. 20 = less government. This way a user could score 15 if they lean toward less government and not feel swayed or manipulated by a question.
2) Confusing Content - When other tests were given, so many people were not familiar with the national ID card, so they never answered the question. Some users didn't like answering double negatives questions.
3) Simplicity - This card is easier to use, and since it is smaller it allows the backside to provide web links
4) Full Color - These cards are more colorful, eye-catching and glossy and are sure to grab attention.

How were the libertarian organizations chosen for the card?
Organizations were chosen based on the following criteria:
1) Accurate Libertarian Ideas - Provides accurate representation of libertarian ideas
2) Popular - The organization is active, has built a reputation, and is popular among other libertarians
3) Active - Website is updated regularly and/or have an active email mailing list
4) Professional and Easy - The website is easy to navigate and professionally designed

Why is the Republican Liberty Caucus and Democratic Freedom Caucus included on the card?
Since Democrats and Republicans will take the cards we do not necessarily want to them change parties, but to change their beliefs first. It's best to inform them that some members of their own party believe in libertarian ideas. This may help users be more open to changing their ideas over time. While the Libertarian Party platform may be most consistent with libertarian principles, some people choose to work within the two major parties.

Where did the quiz originate from?
The quiz was created from a concept from David Nolan which was eventually called the Nolan Chart. This chart also spun out into the World's Smallest Political Quiz which was created by the Advocates for Self-Government.
